What States Allow Me to Return a Walmart Gift Card?
This was a surprise to me. You can actually return a Walmart plastic gift card (or Walmart eGift card) for cash in the following states:
California: Original balance must be greater than $10 and card balance must be $10 or less.
Colorado – $5 balance or less.
Massachusetts – $5 balance or less.
Maine – $5 balance or less.
Montana – $5 balance or less.
New Jersey – $5 balance or less.
Oregon – $5 balance or less.
Washington – $5 balance or less.
Puerto Rico – $5 balance or less.
Texas – Card must have balance of $2. 50 or less with original balance above $5.
Rhode Island – $1 balance or less.
Vermont – $1 balance or less.

Unexpectedly, Walmart will pay the shipping costs as long as the purchase is eligible for a return (in an awesome way).
This makes sense in cases where Walmart sends the incorrect item or defective goods.
Even the shipping fees will be covered if you simply decide you don’t like the item.
To confirm this information, I even started a chat session with Walmart because their website does not make this clear.
Additionally, the item must be sold directly by Walmart and not by a Marketplace seller, as the chat operator mentioned above.
To begin with, you cannot return a gift by mail; instead, you must bring it to a Walmart store.
Bring in the packing slip or receipt if you received the gift by mail in order to start the return process.
You can only do this to be eligible for cash back.
Try to obtain the sender’s email address or order number if you don’t have either of those.
You might only have access to store credit, which is obviously preferable to nothing if neither can be found.
While it might not seem like a problem, many customers have had returns rejected and have been advised to return their purchases to the original retailer.
This happened to someone returning plants and a necklace, according to the comments section.
They were unable to process the return because the item wasn’t in stock there.
If you frequently shop at various Walmart locations, keep this in mind.
Additionally, your return will be rejected if you attempt to return bakery, produce, meat, or frozen goods to a Walmart location that does not have those sections.

Can You Return Items Bought Out of Country to a U.S. Walmart?
I’ve received different answers to this question. Some stores will take the return, some won’t.
It’s best to call ahead and find out in advance whether or not your specific store will accept returns from outside of the country.
If you’ve ever had something substantial shipped to you, you likely know that it’s a good idea to refuse delivery if the packaging or item is damaged upon arrival.
If you attempt to do this with a Walmart delivery, you might be forced to pay the return shipping fee, UNLESS it is somehow damaged.
Even if there is nothing wrong with it, if it is an “over-sized item” and you refuse delivery, you will likely be responsible for the return shipping costs.
On the other hand, I’ve heard that Walmart will pay the delivery fee if you decline delivery of smaller items.
Walmart does not accept returns on mattresses, but under certain conditions will accept returns on air mattresses.
Within 15 days of purchase, if the air bed is still factory sealed and you have your receipt, you may return it.
Within 15 days, opened air mattresses can be returned with a receipt for a Walmart gift card.
You’ll be limited to an even exchange if you don’t have your receipt or if it’s been more than 15 days.
Have you ever purchased a desk, dresser, or entertainment center, taken it home to build it, and then discovered it wasn’t the right size or had some other flaws?
You can return it without a problem, but you’ll need to disassemble it first, pack it with the original accessories, and then transport it back.
If you still have two weeks left, bring it back to the place you bought it, have the receipt, original box, and accessories, and talk to a manager there.
A Walmart employee informed me that most managers will attempt to resolve the situation with you.
If you bought an extended warranty for an item and return it to Walmart, you can get money back on that warranty ONLY if you do so within 30 days of the original purchase.
You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to complete this online since they don’t process this at the store.
I can speak from experience because I own a 50 gallon fish tank and we frequently purchase our fish at Walmart.
There used to be a 90-day return policy for tropical fish purchased from Walmart if they perished, but that policy has since been discontinued.
The new rule limits live fish sales to three days, and many Walmart locations no longer do so.
